The Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (ICCN) is a public technical and scientific enterprise. As such, it is governed by Law No. 78-002 of January 6, 1978 laying down general provisions applicable to public enterprises. He enjoys his own legal personality and financial autonomy. It is placed under the dual supervision of the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation, Water and Forests for the technical aspects and the Portfolio for the financial aspects.
The ICCN whose General Management is in Kinshasa manages a natural and cultural heritage made up of 9 national parks and a constellation of 80 related reserves (Hunting areas and wildlife reserves covering an area of nearly 200,000 km2 or 8% of the extent of the national territory In the future, the ICCN must cover 15% of the total area of the country.
Strengthen the capacity of ICCN to ensure the conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity in the network of Protected Areas of the DRC, in cooperation with local communities and other partners to contribute to the well-being of the Congolese populations and all of humanity.
