Kangra Coal (Pty) LTD produces circa 3 Mtpa of run of mine energy coal. Kangra’s washabilities allows it to produce, a range of thermal coal products for both international and domestic customers. The vast majority of Kangra’s coal is exported through Richards Bay Coal Terminal to power stations in Asia.
Kangra’s consistent quality and secure production make us a sought-after supplier to key markets. Kangra’s location, being close to Richards Bay, positions us well for both exports and to service the local South African markets.
Kangra Coal was founded by Graham Beck in 1957 and became a founding member of RBCT in 1974. Kangra acquired the mining rights for Savmore/Maquasa in 1995. Kangra continues to mine at Maquasa today.
The mine is located about 45km from Piet Retief in Mpumalanga.
Kangra holds a 1.94% interest in RBCT, the world’s largest coal export terminal which allows it to export circa 1.6 Mtpa.
