The Textile Development Agency (TEXDA) - Kampala - Uganda

The Textile Development Agency (TEXDA) short for the Textile Development Agency, is a significant player in Uganda’s textile industry, based in Kampala. Established in 1999, Texda focuses on creating hand-made, high-quality textiles and garments. They are known for their use of sustainably sourced materials and support for local artisans​ .

Texda’s products range from fabrics, shirts, pants, bags, and purses to home decor items like tablecloths, napkins, and bedcovers. They employ traditional hand-weaving techniques using local cotton and silk, which supports Ugandan farmers and promotes eco-friendly practices​ .

Additionally, Texda provides training and support to entrepreneurs in the textile sector, helping them improve their technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills. Over 1050 trainees have benefited from their programs, leading to increased sales, better employment opportunities, and the creation of more jobs in the community​ .

Texda has also made costumes for notable productions like “The Last King of Scotland,” showcasing their craftsmanship on an international stage. They market primarily to international markets, including the EU and USA, and collaborate with partners such as Global Girlfriend and Weaverbirds​.
