Shimoni Reef Lodge started as a fishing camp in the 1980s. Over the years we have added the snorkelling trips, diving and island exploring and upgraded the level of comfort and accommodation without losing touch with the barefoot, casual atmosphere that makes Shimoni feel like you’re at home.
We’ve kept Shimoni Reef outdoorsy, unpretentious and focused on the personalised service and our relationship with nature. Many of the staff have been with us forever and take enormous pride in hosting you.

Shimoni Reef Lodge sits on the doorstep of the Coral Islands and marine reserve. The local fishing community and sport fishermen remain dynamic and the environment is full of healthy marine life. Miles of amazing diving and snorkeling inside Kisite Mpunguti marine reserve are just a boat ride away, where 95% of visits include seeing and swimming alongside dolphins, turtles, snappers, rays and many of the most amazing fish of the Indian ocean. The coral is alive with color in better condition than most reefs you’ll see anywhere in the world today.
That’s just the beginning of your experience at Shimoni. For 20 years we have served sport fisherman, scuba divers, snorkelers, honeymooners and friends to explore, discover and feel the Kenya of Old, where time has mercifully stood still and the masses have not taken over. Today we offer 6 spacious comfortable cottages, a roof top suite overlooking the Wasini channel, and a residential house for visitors who prefer self-catering. There is also a new deep pool for training, a spa service for guests, and an exciting new menu for our guests who just want to relax and enjoy the special kind of privacy for which Shimoni is so well known.
