Epping Industrial Park, located in Cape Town between Thornton, Pinelands, and Langa, was first developed in the late 1940s. Initially, progress was slow, and during the early 1950s, the circular Gunners Circle even served as a car racetrack. Industrial expansion accelerated in the late 1950s, ending the races, and the nearby Athlone Power Station boosted growth in the 1960s. Today, Epping Industria is Cape Town’s largest and most centrally located industrial zone, attracting businesses for its excellent road access and public transport. It hosts key industries such as textiles, automotive, logistics, construction, and food processing, with Nampak—Africa’s largest packaging company—among its leading enterprises.
