Botswana will host AviaDev Africa 2026, the continent’s leading air route development conference. The event will take place from June 10–12, 2026, at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC), marking a key milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen air connectivity and position itself as a strategic aviation hub in Africa.
The winning bid was led by Botswana Air Access, in collaboration with Helm Growth Advisors and under the leadership of Tim Harris, with the goal of attracting new routes and strengthening existing ones. According to Dr. Bao Mosinyi, CEO of the Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana, this is a unique opportunity to showcase the nation’s potential as both an aviation hub and a top-tier safari destination.
AviaDev CEO Jon Howell highlighted that Botswana’s strong commitment to improving air access, along with its extraordinary tourism offering, make it an ideal host.
The Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone offers regional connections to cities like Johannesburg, Harare, Lusaka, Cape Town, Durban, and Addis Ababa, and serves domestic destinations such as Maun and Kasane—gateways to the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park.
Renowned for its rich biodiversity and conservation model, Botswana is home to the largest elephant population in Africa and offers pristine wildlife experiences. The country champions a low-impact, high-value tourism model, ensuring the preservation of its natural heritage.
With a 9.5% increase in passenger traffic during the 2024/2025 fiscal year, Botswana’s aviation sector is showing strong signs of recovery and growth.
Hosting AviaDev Africa firmly establishes Botswana as a rising leader in the future of African aviation. 🛫🇧🇼
