Profile
Lake Mazafin, located on the island of Annobón in Equatorial Guinea, is a natural treasure that deserves our attention. With a length of 600 meters and a width of 400 meters, this lake is located in the heart of the island, surrounded by cliffs, broken hills and rugged coastlines. But don’t be fooled by its modest size; Its beauty is immense.
Annobón Island is of volcanic origin and is formed by a large basaltic rock. The highest point is Pico Quioveo, which rises 598 meters above sea level. The island has an area of 18 square kilometers and is surrounded by several rocky islets about 2.5 kilometers away.
Lake Mazafin is located in an extinct volcanic crater. Its calm waters contrast with the rugged surrounding topography. From the top of Pico de Fuego, the panoramic views of the lake are simply spectacular. Here, the yucca fields and rocks provide a perfect backdrop to capture memorable photographs.
The ascent to Pico de Fuego is not an easy task. Although there is no clear path, brave adventurers can make their way through the vegetation. However, as you climb, the fight against weeds becomes more intense. Unstable trees and slippery rocks make the climb a challenge, but the reward upon reaching the top is indescribable.
Once at the summit, the view of the island stretches out before you in shades of blue, green and yellow. The cement plaques with engraved names and the iron post, where visitors place offerings, add a human touch to this natural landscape.
On the way down, the fruit fields (mangos, oranges, coffee, cocoa, plantains and bananas) look like an open-air fruit shop. Lake Mazafin, with its serenity and mystery, is a reminder of the unique beauty found in the least explored corners of our planet. A hidden gem in the Atlantic! 🌊🏞️
