The Ministry of Social Affairs and Gender Equality of Equatorial Guinea, established in 1992, is dedicated to promoting gender equality and social welfare in the country. Since its creation, it has implemented policies and programs to integrate Equatorial Guinean women into positions of responsibility in various public and private sectors.

This ministry has played a fundamental role in the development of the National Economic and Social Development Plan “Equatorial Guinea 2020,” which includes specific gender-related objectives, such as eliminating disparities in access to education and promoting women’s economic empowerment.

Despite these efforts, challenges persist in promoting women’s rights, especially concerning queer women, who have faced discrimination and obstacles in advocating for their human rights in the country.
