Profile
The Heights of Nsork National Park (Los Altos de Nsork) is one of the most important protected areas in Equatorial Guinea, located in the continental region of the country, in the Wele-Nzas province, near the border with Gabon and Cameroon. It covers approximately 700 km² of lush tropical rainforest, making it a key area for biodiversity conservation.
The park is characterized by mountainous terrain, with rolling hills and dense jungle that provide a spectacular landscape. The altitude variations create diverse ecosystems, home to a wide range of plant and animal species. This region is part of the larger Congo Basin rainforest, one of the most ecologically significant areas in the world.
Los Altos de Nsork is rich in wildlife, including forest elephants, leopards, pangolins, and several primate species such as chimpanzees and lowland gorillas. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers, offering sightings of rare and endemic species. Its dense vegetation consists of towering tropical trees, medicinal plants, and a variety of endemic flora.
Due to its ecological significance, the park plays a crucial role in the Guinean-Congolese forest corridor, a vital habitat for endangered species. Conservation efforts are needed to protect this unique environment from threats such as deforestation and illegal hunting.
Although tourism infrastructure is still underdeveloped, Los Altos de Nsork presents a fantastic opportunity for ecotourism, wildlife photography, and scientific research. Visitors interested in adventure tourism can explore the park through guided expeditions, experiencing the pristine beauty of Equatorial Guinea’s rainforests.
