Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) is Rwanda’s public broadcaster, established by Law N°42/2013 of 16/06/2013, transforming the former ORINFOR (Office Rwandais d’Information, active since 1963) into a modern, independent institution.
Before 1994, ORINFOR served as a government-controlled channel used for propaganda, contributing negatively during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Post-genocide, the need for a new media institution focused on public service, truth, and citizen-centered reporting became critical.
RBA was officially created in 2013 to ensure professional, independent broadcasting that reflects the voice and interests of Rwandans, breaking with ORINFOR’s legacy of inefficiency and state control.
