Mapungubwe National Park, located in Limpopo Province, South Africa, lies by the Kolope River, near the confluence of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers. Just 15 km northeast of the Venetia Diamond Mine, it borders the Mapesu Private Game Reserve to the south and shares boundaries with Botswana and Zimbabwe as part of the Greater Mapungubwe Transfrontier Conservation Area. Established in 1995, the park spans over 28,000 hectares (69,000 acres) and protects the historic Mapungubwe Hill, once the capital of the Kingdom of Mapungubwe during the Iron Age. Archaeological discoveries at the site include the famous golden rhino figurine, evidence of a thriving and prosperous community.

The park also preserves rich biodiversity, including wildlife and riverine forests along the Limpopo River. Remarkably, it is one of the few places in Africa where meerkats and Nile crocodiles coexist. Mapungubwe is celebrated for its stunning landscapes, featuring unique sandstone formations, woodlands, riverine forests, and iconic baobab trees.
