The Museu da Moeda in Luanda, Angola, is a modern underground museum dedicated to the nation’s monetary history. Constructed over two years and seven months, it encompasses a gross area of approximately 4,900 square meters, with a usable space of 3,873.45 square meters. Notably, all materials used in its construction were sourced within Angola, reflecting national pride and craftsmanship.
Inaugurated on March 23, 2013, by Governor Dr. José de Lima Massano, the museum is strategically located near the National Bank of Angola in Luanda’s city center. Its subterranean design not only preserves the urban landscape but also offers visitors a unique architectural experience.
The museum showcases Angola’s currency evolution, from pre-monetary systems like shells and salt to modern banknotes and coins.
