Botswana Animal Identification & Traceability System (BAITS) is an innovative government initiative that provides farmers with a simple, comprehensive platform to manage livestock information. With BAITS, animals can be easily registered, including details such as species, breed, and age. Farmers can quickly notify authorities of new livestock arrivals and streamline ownership transfers for purchases, sales, or gifts, keeping records accurate and updated. The system also allows precise documentation of veterinary treatments and medications, ensuring proper herd health management. In unfortunate cases of livestock deaths, BAITS enables farmers to report and manage the removal of fallen stock in compliance with regulations. By modernizing livestock traceability, BAITS enhances transparency, strengthens food security, and supports the growth of Botswana’s agricultural sector.
