The Companies and Intellectual Property Authority (CIPA) of Botswana is responsible for business registration and intellectual property protection through four main laws: the Companies Act, Business Names Registration Act, Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act, and Industrial Property Act. CIPA oversees company incorporation, business name registration, trademarks, patents, copyrights, industrial designs, and geographical indications.

Led by the Registrar General, the authority also represents Botswana in international organizations such as World Intellectual Property Organization, African Regional Intellectual Property Organization, and the Corporate Registers Forum, strengthening Botswana’s business environment and IP protection system.
