Rikolto in DR Congo is a member of the public utility foundation “Rikolto”, based in Louvain, Belgium. Rikolto is a word in Esperanto, which means “harvest”: harvest of agricultural products, but also harvest of ideas and experiences. For more than 30 years, we have worked with farmers’ organizations in the DRC to complete our motto: farmers are winners.
Our mission From now on, we want to contribute to the search for viable strategies to respond to the greatest challenge of all time: How to feed the world tomorrow? Rikolto supports family farmers to play their role in reducing rural poverty and allows them to contribute to sustainably feeding the growing world population.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rikolto has decided to focus entirely on the east of the country (South and North Kivu, as well as Ituri and Tanganyika) while focusing on three promising agricultural value chains: coffee arabica, cocoa and rice. At the same time it is important to also support provincial and national farmer organizations in their advocacy efforts towards the authorities and technical and financial partners.
