The Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village. Nestled at the base of the iconic Thaba Bosiu plateau, the Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village (TBCV) is located along the Rafutho axis, the main pathway leading up the mountain. Just 24 kilometers outside Maseru, Lesotho’s capital, this destination is a must-see for any tourist seeking both a contemporary and authentically Lesotho experience.

Thaba Bosiu holds immense historical significance as the birthplace of the Basotho people and stands as a National Monument. The sandstone plateau served as a formidable fortress under King Moshoeshoe I, the founder of the Basotho nation. It was here that he protected his people during turbulent times, including the Lifaqane (Mfecane) wars. Known as "Mountain at Night," Thaba Bosiu was believed to possess supernatural powers, growing taller at night. This phenomenon left enemies who attempted to scale it stranded on its cliffs, making them easy targets by morning.

Visitors can enjoy daily guided tours of the plateau, where they can explore the ruins of the Royal Village, marvel at the Mountain Sand Dunes, and pay their respects at the grave of King Moshoeshoe I.
The Thaba Bosiu Cultural Village is a privately managed, multifaceted hospitality facility that has transformed the historic site into a vibrant tourist destination.
