Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), located 12 km southwest of Dar es Salaam, is Tanzania’s largest and busiest airport. Operated by the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), it is one of 58 government-owned airports in the country. Formerly known as Dar es Salaam International Airport (DIA), it was renamed in 2006 to honor Julius Kambarage Nyerere, Tanzania’s first president. JNIA serves numerous destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. The airport currently has two terminals, with a third—Terminal 3—under construction. Once completed, it will be the largest, with the capacity to handle up to 6 million passengers annually.
