Mandela National Stadium, also known as Namboole Stadium, is a multi-purpose venue in Kampala, Uganda, primarily used for football. With a capacity of 40,202, it was built in 1997 with a $36 million grant from the People’s Republic of China. Originally called Namboole, the stadium was renamed to honor Nelson Mandela, though locals still refer to it by its original name. The stadium was inaugurated with a concert by South African reggae artist Lucky Dube. It serves as the home ground for Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, as well as the Uganda Revenue Authority and Police FC. Its vision is to be the top provider of sports and recreational facilities, while its mission focuses on managing, developing, and marketing facilities to satisfy all stakeholders. The stadium emphasizes sustainability and the mutual benefit of all involved.
