Who we are / Info
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in southwestern Uganda, on the edge of the Albertine Rift. Its steep, mist-shrouded hills are covered by one of the country’s oldest and most biologically rich rainforests, estimated to be over 25,000 years old and home to nearly 400 plant species. Renowned worldwide, this truly “impenetrable” forest safeguards around 320 mountain gorillas—approximately half of the global population—including several habituated families that can be tracked by visitors.
Beyond gorillas, Bwindi supports an extraordinary range of wildlife, providing habitat for more than 120 mammal species. These include various primates such as chimpanzees and baboons, as well as forest elephants and diverse antelope species. The park is also a major birding destination, with around 350 recorded bird species, among them 23 endemics of the Albertine Rift.
The nearby communities of Buhoma and Nkuringo offer a wide selection of accommodation, from high-end lodges to traditional bandas and budget campsites. Visitors will also find restaurants, craft markets and professional guiding services. Cultural experiences are an integral part of the visit, with opportunities to engage with Bakiga and Batwa communities through village walks, storytelling, performances and hands-on workshops.
