Profile
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation, established in 2006 by Sudanese-British businessman Mo Ibrahim, is dedicated to improving governance and leadership across Africa. Based in London and Dakar, the Foundation promotes good governance as a key driver of sustainable development and prosperity on the continent.
One of its flagship initiatives is the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG), a comprehensive tool that measures the quality of governance in all 54 African countries using hundreds of independent indicators. The IIAG provides invaluable data for policymakers, civil society, and citizens to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
The Foundation also awards the prestigious Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership, which honors former African heads of state who demonstrated outstanding leadership and left office democratically. The prize highlights the importance of integrity and accountability in public service.
In addition, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation organizes the annual Ibrahim Governance Weekend, a high-profile forum that brings together leaders, experts, and young people to discuss Africa’s most pressing challenges.
Through fellowships, scholarships, and its Now Generation Network, the Foundation invests in young African talent, empowering the next generation of leaders.
By championing transparency, accountability, and visionary leadership, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation continues to shape Africa’s path toward good governance and inclusive growth.
