The Mongomo and Micomeseng region in mainland Equatorial Guinea is emerging as a strategic hub for agricultural and agro-industrial development, aligning with national efforts to diversify the economy beyond oil dependency.
In Mongomo, plans are underway to establish a tropical fruit processing facility aimed at revitalizing the fruit sector in the Centro Sur and Wele-Nzás provinces. This initiative is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, and will focus on processing fruits like pineapple to meet international standards.
Additionally, Mongomo has been identified as a suitable location for implementing an agro-industrial project encompassing poultry, pig, sheep, and goat farming, along with the production of feed and maize. The primary goal of this project is to achieve food self-sufficiency in Equatorial Guinea.
Micomeseng, on the other hand, is recognized for its coffee and cocoa production, which are vital economic activities for the locality.
These initiatives underscore Equatorial Guinea’s commitment to economic diversification and sustainable development, aiming to reduce reliance on oil and promote sectors that generate employment and enhance food security.
