BITRI stands for, Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation.
BITRI is a research organisation established as company limited by guarantee in 2012. It conducts research in Technologies and Natural Resources and Materials. BIH was established to support new ventures and existing companies as well as attract companies, universities, research and advanced training institutes to establish in the Science and Technology Park. The two institutions are based at Maranyane House until the BIH Icon Building is complete
The Mandate of BITRI is to identify and/ or develop appropriate technology solutions in line with national priorities and needs of Batswana. The technologies will as much as possible maximize the use of local materials to ensure efficiency and affordability.
The broad thematic areas are Technologies; Electronics, Energy, ICT and Natural Resources and Materials; Environment & Climate Change, Materials and Water.
Partnerships are encouraged at BITRI and should be in one of the strategic research priority areas of interest.
BITRI does not provide any financial assistance to individuals but can provide expertise and carry out research as contracted work.
The technologies will as much as possible maximize the use of local materials to ensure efficiency and affordability.
BITRI will harness its institutional capacity as well as collaborate with other organizations and institutions.
BITRI is situated at Maranyane House in Gaborone, Botswana. It has other campuses in Gaborone, Kanye and Palapye.
