The Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) was established under the Small Business Act of 2004, Chapter 43:10 of the Laws of Botswana, to implement the government’s mandate of promoting entrepreneurship and enterprise development, particularly for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs). Operating under the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MTI), LEA serves as a parastatal entity dedicated to fostering economic growth and job creation through targeted interventions.
LEA’s core functions encompass providing assistance to SMMEs in preparing business plans, feasibility studies, and market surveys; enhancing business skills through training and advisory services; facilitating access to government procurement contracts; identifying firms with export potential; promoting linkages between SMMEs and larger industries; and improving access to funding for enterprise development.
