Tooke - Kampala - Uganda

Matooke, the East African highland cooking banana, has always been a mainstay of the diet of the people of Uganda as well as a source of employment for 75% of the country’s population.

To the local indigenous Baganda, Matooke is simply known as Emmere– literally meaning “the food” in English and matooke is grown off rich volcanic soils, at over 1000m above sea level in Western, Central and Eastern Uganda.

OUR BRAND
President Yoweri KagutaMuseveni commissioned the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) to kick-start the industrial commercialization of Uganda’s bananas through research and development.

Today, Uganda’s matooke has been transformed from a subsistence crop into an exciting new line of food products for international markets under the Tooke brand.

Tooke products, which are based on patented technologies of Rev. Prof. Florence I. Muranga, are positioned to meet the demands of local, regional and international consumers.
Tooke products contain healthnutrients like potassium, calcium, soluble fiber, vitamins and serotonin, and they are both fat and gluten free
