Every week, a European buyer asks us a variation of the same question: “Can I trust this African company?”
It is a legitimate question. A flawless website doesn’t guarantee much. Appearing in a directory proves even less, unless someone has actually verified what lies behind that entry. That gap between “appearing online” and “being a safe company to do business with” is the reason our Africa-Europe B2B directory exists.

Who is behind ProdAfrica?
ProdAfrica was founded in 2016 and is run by me, with more than 15 years of experience in business relations between Africa and Europe, including multiple trips to the continent, especially to Southern Africa. That on-the-ground experience shapes every decision about the platform. A directory built solely through automated data collection might list thousands of companies, but it cannot tell you which ones actually respond to emails.
ProdAfrica is an independent Africa-Europe B2B Intelligence Hub and business directory designed to help buyers, exporters, investors and institutions connect with greater confidence.
What “Verified” means in our Africa-Europe B2B directory
Not all listings on ProdAfrica are the same, and this is by design. Companies can appear with a free profile, a “Verified” listing, or a “Premium” listing; each tier indicates to buyers the extent of the information that has been confirmed. Higher tiers may include details regarding business registration and tax identification, allowing the buyer to verify basic data before making contact. Certain supporting documents remain private and are never published. You can compare the options on our pricing page.
The principle is simple: the more information a company provides, the more a buyer can verify, and the greater the visibility the company gains.
How we spot inconsistencies in African company listings
Managing a directory involves periodically reviewing listings that show irregularities, such as inconsistent data, copied descriptions, or profiles claiming to be located in a place with which they have no real connection. We won’t describe our exact verification procedures, for obvious reasons, but the key lies in the approach: a human being reviews questionable cases rather than relying blindly on automation. When a case is unclear, we prefer to contact the company rather than reject it, as a legitimate business can sometimes look unusual on paper.
What a typical day looks like
A normal day for us involves a wide variety of tasks: responding to a European company seeking suppliers in a specific country, reviewing new listings, speaking with a company that wants to find the plan that best suits its needs, and making sure the platform runs smoothly. It isn’t glamorous work, but it is what makes a directory reliable.
Benefits for European and African companies
- Lower risk. Basic verifications are visible even before sending the first email.
- Faster access to the right contact. Listings are organized in our Africa-Europe B2B Directory by country and sector, and our market entry guides help you understand each market.
- Visibility inside the directory. African companies appear in the searches of European buyers who are actively looking for suppliers and partners.
- A real person to consult. If the directory doesn’t answer your question, you can write to us directly.
Open to small businesses and first-time entrepreneurs
Many of the African businesses we come across are small, often run by one or two people, and many are led by women. Not all of them can afford a website of their own, and that should not keep them out of international trade. A free ProdAfrica profile gives any company a professional presence inside the directory, where European buyers search by country and sector. Entrepreneurs and women-led businesses start on the same terms as everyone else, and they can move to a Verified listing when they are ready to show more and gain more visibility. A directory should widen the door to the market, not make it narrower.
More than a directory: market intelligence for Africa-Europe trade
Finding a company is only part of the work. Buyers and investors also need context: which markets are opening up, which rules apply, and which institutions matter. That is why, alongside the directory, we publish market entry guides by country, reports and analysis on African business, and strategic hubs that map the main institutional players. Our EU-Africa Strategic Partnership Hub, for example, brings together European organizations, financing bodies and trade tools in one searchable place, filtered by financing, trade agreements, development, cooperation and market access. Our B2B Intelligence Index (ATIS) adds a further layer for comparing markets. This information is indicative, so we always point to the official sources behind it.
Our analytical approach is also supported by the DCCI Framework (Due Diligence, Compliance, Capacity and Integrity), which helps structure how we assess business information and market opportunities.
Quality over volume
We would rather build a smaller network that buyers can trust than the largest directory on the continent. Companies that complete our verification receive a formal verification document they can share with prospective partners. It does not replace a buyer’s own checks, but it shows that the basics have been reviewed.
We are not trying to become the largest African business directory. Our goal is to become one of the most trusted sources of Africa-Europe B2B information.
Real limitations
A directory is a starting point, not a guarantee. Verification reduces risk but does not eliminate the need to carry out your own checks, such as requesting references or samples, or placing a small trial order. What ProdAfrica offers is the ability to take that first step more quickly and with better information.
