Who we are / Info
Zambezi National Park is located upstream from Victoria Falls along the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. Established as a separate park in 1979, it covers 56,000 hectares. A road to Kazungula divides the park into two main sections: a riverine zone and the Chamabonda Vlei area. Most of the park lies within the Zambezian and Mopane woodlands ecoregion, with a smaller southern section in the Zambezian Baikiaea woodlands.
The park hosts a rich diversity of wildlife, including iconic large mammals such as African elephants, lions, Cape buffalo and leopards, members of the “Big Five.” Other species include sable antelope, eland, zebra, giraffe, kudu, waterbuck and impala, along with numerous smaller animals.
Birdlife is especially abundant, with over 400 recorded species. Notable birds include Pel’s fishing owl, African skimmer, goliath heron, lanner falcon and African finfoot. The park is also home to around 75 fish species in the Zambezi River, including the well-known tiger fish, making it an important destination for biodiversity and wildlife observation.
